Service Records from the War of 1812-1815 list Jacob Spear with the 39th Regiment, New York militia (Ontario County), under Lieutenant Colonel, Gilbert Howell. Jacob joined the regiment in 1812 as a private, and in 1814 he is listed as being a Corporal. He would have been around age 27 when first signing up for the war.
There are a recorded 43 soldiers from Palmyra/Macedon who fought in the War of 1812 but the number is probably greater.
Because Jacob Spear has a headstone in such great condition, the VA will not be providing him with a military headstone.
Jacob Spear, son of Lemuel Spear and Ruth Hayward, was born January 25, 1785, in Cummington, Massachusetts. Jacob's father, Lemuel Spear, fought in the Revolutionary War and is also buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery.
Jacob is listed on the Palmyra, New York Highway Tax Record, 1817-1822 in the years, 1817 and 1818 where he worked with several family members and notable members of the community such as Webb Harwood.
There is no known information if Jacob Spear had a wife or children. He died June 3rd, 1831, in Macedon, N.Y. He was buried in The Old Baptist Cemetery next to his father and around many of his relatives.

Corporal Jacob Spear's banner
On Saturday, April 25th, Macedon held a Hometown Heroes banquet to honor veterans from Macedon, from the Revolutionary War to the present day. The banquet was held at Crooked Pines Golf Club for the Macedon Banner Project. Senator Pamela Helming, along with Brian Manktelow was there in support.
The veterans being honored were granted banners with their names and service listed, along with their photos when available. Since most of the soldiers were not around to be photographed art of what the soldiers of the time would have looked like were used instead. Of the over 20 banners created, 5 were from the Old Baptist Cemetery. The following men were given banners that are scheduled to be displayed on Macedon's Main Street along Route 31: Private Ephraim Green, Corporal Jacob Spear, Sergeant Lemuel Spear, Private Aaron Brister, and Private Levi Wood.
