Service Records from the War of 1812-1815 list Jacob Spear with the 39th Regiment, New York militia (Ontario County), under Lieutenant Colonel, Gilbert Howell. Jacob joined the regiment in 1812 as a private, and in 1814 he is listed as being a Corporal. He would have been around age 27 when first signing up for the war.
There are a recorded 43 soldiers from Palmyra/Macedon who fought in the War of 1812 but the number is probably greater.
Because Jacob Spear has a headstone in such great condition, the VA will not be providing him with a military headstone.
Further research and military records are needed for more information.
